The University is in the process of building an additional facility that would connect to the current Kellogg Eye Center. Features in the new building include three floors for patient consultations; one floor with six operating rooms and associated preparatory and recovery facilities; and three floors devoted to diabetes research including a vivarium, cage wash, and imaging. The facility also includes conference rooms and several informal break-out spaces, as well as audio/video equipment and connections to the current eye center. This equipment can facilitate projection of live procedures from the eye center expansion operating rooms to areas such as the main eye center auditorium.
ACM reviewed submittals, RFIs, ASIs, pay applications, contractor bids, and the project schedule; as well as witnessed on-site testing, managed construction costs, and attended mechanical coordination meetings, Owner/Architect/Construction Manager Meetings, Project Manager Meetings, Contractor Pre-Award Meetings, and other project related meetings.
ACM also coordinated the shut down of a 40 kV power line to protect contractors who had to work within the ten foot safety zone surrounding the high voltage line. This effort included coordination with Detroit Energy, the construction management company, all contractors working in the restricted area around the high power line, and the University’s high voltage shop and utilities and plant engineering department and project team.
