Project Controls
Description
To understand exactly how a project is progressing, one must examine and understand all aspects of project controls. And, not only must each aspect of project controls be analyzed, but also how they are related to and dependent on each other. This thorough and interactive course teaches the different aspects of project controls including Planning, Cost Estimating, CPM Scheduling, Resource Management, Project Cost Control (including Earned Value), and Project Controls Implementation.
The course begins with an overview of project controls. Participants will then sharpen their skills by discussing and developing a project plan. How the plan forms the basis of the project estimate will be discussed and then participants will explore the different types of cost estimates and what components make up a viable estimate. Participants will then delve into the world of CPM scheduling and work through developing a schedule and work through several schedule updates. A thorough presentation of Resource Management follows. Participants will then go through an in-depth exploration of project cost control and work through Baseline Budget development, tracking commitments, cost reporting, and earned value. A participatory workshop on cost/time relationships for evaluation of crashing or stretching will be presented. The course concludes with a “how-to” practical guide to implement project controls.
