This course is a thorough presentation of the principles used in planning and scheduling, which result in effective management of projects in order to remain competitive and successful in today's economy. This course is also a great preparation tool for the AACE Planning & Scheduling Professional certification exam.
The first day is intended as a refresher course for those who do not engage in these practices full-time, or as an introduction for those with little or no background in the subject. The first day includes workshops on developing the plan for a project, creating a critical path network, and calculating the forward and backward passes.
The second day moves from schedule development into schedule usage as a management tool. This session presents intensive training of intermediate and advanced schedule techniques including principles and practices of resource allocation and leveling; principles and practices of earned value; schedule and cost performance indices for managing projects; the differences between status, progress, and performance measurement; calculations; and reporting. Attendees will also participate in a workshop on cost and time relationships for evaluation of crashing or stretching work plans. The use of schedules in a multiple project environment will also be explored.
